Basque Heritage Tours for the Basque Diaspora

There are more Basques living “outside” than inside the Basque Country. From the colonial era to the big migratory waves of the XIX and XX centuries, Basque people have left their beloved homeland to start a new life. Out of all the places around the world, America has been the main destination of the Basque diaspora, and today it is also known as the “Eighth Basque Province.”

Since a delegation of students and teachers from the University of Boise (Idaho) visited the Basque Country in 1974 to learn about the Basque Culture and the Basque language, Euskera, many other Basque Americans have also been coming to visit their motherland. In this sense, we want to express our gratitude and admiration to the Basque communities settled around the United States, the North American Basque Association (NABO), and the Euskal Etxeak (or Basque Houses) for the remarkable work they have been doing organising different events and partnerships to keep the flame alive!

BASQUE HERITAGE TOURS FOR THE BASQUE DIASPORA

At GO BASQUE we have also been involved with the Basque American community organising Basque Heritage Tours for families, associations, or groups of friends who have wanted to visit the Basque Country. Since 2015 we have been crafting different experiences and itineraries throughout the Basque Country for those Basque-Americans who want to learn more about their Basque roots. And for more than 10 years we have been providing support tracing family trees, connecting Basque American relatives, and tailoring events and experiences so that our guests can make unforgettable memories during their visit to the Basque Country.

We offer a wide variety of Basque Heritage Tours, from day tours visiting the birth town of a relative, to multiple day packages around the Basque Country. Explore the cities of Bilbao or San Sebastian, surrender to the charm of the Basque countryside landscapes, and taste authentic Basque cuisine during any of our food tours.

If you are considering tracing your Basque family roots and/or travelling to the Basque Country, do not hesitate to contact us for any support you might need choosing your experiences on your visit to the Basque Region.
