The city of Vitoria (Gasteiz in Basque) is the capital of the Basque Autonomous Community and, as such, home to the Autonomous Community’s House of Parliament. As a result of the city’s efforts to promote green policies and its large green public spaces, the European Commission awarded the city the title of European Green Capital in 2012.

Our visit to Vitoria will begin with a stroll through the beautiful Park of La Florida, an extensive green area of heavy French influence.

On our way towards the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, we will pass by the House of Parliament and stop at several iconic places and monuments before reaching the city’s ancient quarter, where we will have the opportunity to admire some of the best preserved medieval streets, plazas, and architecture in the region.

We will end our day with a guided visit to the emblematic Cathedral of Santa María, an exquisite Gothic building built in the XIV century that encloses within its walls all of the history of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
