The beautiful and charming town of Saint Jean Pied de Port (Donibane Garazi in Basque), on the foothills of the Pyrenees, is our first stop on our tour of the French Basque Countryside. With its beautiful cobbled streets that run down hill across a quaint old bridge over the river Nive, the town is renown for being the starting point of the most popular route of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela on The Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago). After a short stroll through the town, following the footsteps of the pilgrims, we will continue our tour through the small town of St. Étienne de Baïgorry.

Deeper into the French Basque Countryside, we will head towards the picturesque town of Espelette, famous for its dried red peppers that are hung to dry during the summer from its houses and shops. We will get the opportunity to stroll through the colorful streets of Espelette and do some Basque-produce shopping.

We will then continue our tour into the small village of Ainhoa. Standing just three kilometers away from the Spanish border, this tiny village of just one street is the typical French Basque village, with its bright red and green houses, a church, a graveyard, and a fronton.
